GANG MEMBERS

CYRUS

Cyrus is not just the leader of the Gramercy Riffs he is the ideological heart of the entire gang world in the film. His presence, although brief, has a massive impact on the narrative and on the collective imagination.

Cyrus is charismatic, calm, and incredibly persuasive. He speaks like a spiritual leader, not a criminal. During the legendary gathering of all the gangs in Van Cortlandt Park, he delivers a speech that has become iconic.

Cyrus is tragically assassinated by Luther, the unhinged leader of the Rogues, during the meeting. This event sets the entire plot of the film in motion: the Warriors are wrongly accused of the murder and begin their desperate journey to survive.

The death of Cyrus represents the fall of a dream of unity. He is almost a messianic figure — dying just as he tries to bring peace and shared power among the gangs.

MASAI
Masai is Cyrus’s right-hand man — cold, determined, silent, yet authoritative. He lacks Cyrus’s charismatic rhetoric and utopian dream of uniting the gangs. Instead, Masai comes across as a pragmatic leader, more focused on justice, vengeance, and control.

His first objective after Cyrus’s assassination is to restore order and punish those responsible. Due to false information spread by the Rogues, he initially orders a manhunt for the Warriors, believing them guilty.

After his soldiers report that several gangs were defeated by the Warriors, Masai begins to understand the value and strength of that gang. But soon after, a member of an unknown gang reveals the truth — and that’s when everything changes.

Masai heads to Coney Island seeking revenge, but not against the Warriors — rather, against the Rogues, who do not get away with it.

CLEAVER
Cleaver is a soldier of the Gramercy Riffs and one of the trusted men close to the Riffs' leadership. He doesn't have any memorable lines or a central role in the film, but he is present during the final scene, when the truth about Cyrus's death is finally revealed.
In the video game, however, Cleaver is portrayed as a high-ranking lieutenant of the Riffs and sometimes acts as the gang’s spokesperson, especially after Cyrus’s death.

CALVIN
Calvin is a member of the Gramercy Riffs, featured exclusively in The Warriors video game. He does not appear in the original 1979 film, but his character helps to enrich the internal structure and hierarchy of New York’s most powerful gang.
In the game, Calvin is portrayed as a mid-to-high-ranking operative, responsible for investigative and organizational tasks within the Riffs.

JAMAL
Jamal is a member of the Gramercy Riffs, appearing exclusively in The Warriors video game (2005) developed by Rockstar Games. He does not appear in the original 1979 film but plays a supportive role within the internal structure of the gang. Jamal is portrayed as a loyal and disciplined guard, tasked with security and access control at key locations where the Riffs gather. He is part of the team that maintains order during meetings with other gangs and during critical moments in the storyline.

STOKELY
Stokely is a character exclusive to The Warriors video game (2005) developed by Rockstar Games. He does not appear in the original 1979 film, but in the game he plays a clearly defined role within the structure of the Gramercy Riffs, acting as a spokesperson and event coordinator. Stokely serves as the official announcer and event organizer for Riffs-related gatherings and communications. He is the voice of power when Masai or other leaders remain silent. He delivers orders, announces verdicts, summons gangs, and helps maintain order.

MALACHI
Malachi is a secondary character in the The Warriors video game (2005), developed by Rockstar Games. He is a member of the Gramercy Riffs, but does not appear in the original 1979 film. His presence in the game adds depth and realism to the structure of the Riffs. Malachi serves as a watcher and messenger, often tasked with monitoring other gangs’ movements and reporting back to leadership. He’s not a frontline fighter or a leader, but plays a key role in internal communication.
